Simulation Analyst
Location: Remote, < 10% travel within the US & Canada may be required
Overview:
The Institute for Healthcare Optimization (IHO) is looking for an experienced, driven and highly analytical professional interested in using scientific operations management methods to make a difference in hospital systems within the US and Canada. The Simulation Analyst is responsible for helping build, analyze, and present discrete event simulation models customized to meet client goals, specifications, and projections to evaluate various process flows. The individual in this role will also perform data analytics, build dashboards, prepare and give presentations within the organization and externally to clients, and work closely with project management to identify opportunities for process improvement. Experience working with international multidisciplinary teams involving physicians, nurses, healthcare administrators, and decision support personnel would be a plus. In addition, the role offers exposure to senior management at IHO and IHO’s healthcare clients.
Responsibilities:
- Develop simulation models of different healthcare processes to determine optimal capacity allocation
- Validate simulation models to replicate the current-state patient flow of the healthcare system accurately
- Identify trends and patterns in the healthcare data to be incorporated into the simulation model building
- Develop data-driven insights and analytics to assist the client with identifying and implementing operation management strategies to optimize patient flow
- Collaborate with client and internal teams to improve process flows, identify and resolve data limitations to assist in the development of process improvement strategies
- Generate analytical reports and KPI dashboards
- Develop presentation materials to communicate simulation and analytical recommendations to clients and internal teams
- Conduct research to support the continuous development of optimization strategies
- Perform ad hoc projects assigned by IHO leadership
- Occasional travel to client sites (<10%) for project presentations and meetings

Desired skills and experience:
- Master’s degree in engineering, statistics, operation research/management, business & healthcare management
- 2 to 5 years of experience in simulation modeling for process improvement is required. Experience in the healthcare industry is preferred
- Experience in using at least one of the following discrete-event simulation tools: AnyLogic, Arena, ExtendSim, FlexSim & Simul8
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate & visualize data using Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, or similar tools
- Programming experience using Python or R is a plus
