Patient Flow Data Analyst
Location: Remote, < 10% travel within the US & Canada required
Overview:
The Institute for Healthcare Optimization (IHO) is looking for an experienced, driven and highly analytical professional interested in using scientific operations management methods to make a difference in health systems within the US and Canada. The Data Analyst at the IHO is responsible for data analysis for hospital operations redesign projects as well as for research and educational programs. This position requires experience with hospital and healthcare operations data, a high facility level with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other statistical and analytic tools, an ability to work with large data sets, and consulting and presentation skills. Experience working with international multidisciplinary teams involving physicians, nurses, healthcare administrators, and decision support personnel would be a plus. In addition, the role offers exposure to senior management at IHO and IHO’s healthcare clients.
Responsibilities
- Perform data requisition, collection, review, and analysis as directed
- Perform analytics on healthcare operations data using Excel, Tableau, Power BI, Queuing and Simulation software, or similar tools
- Participate in presenting analyses to IHO leadership as well as to IHO’s clients
- Participate in the writing and development of patient flow assessment reports
- Work collaboratively with IHO project managers, analysts, and simulation engineers
- Conduct research to support the continuous development of optimization strategies
- Perform ad hoc projects assigned by IHO leadership
- Occasional travel to client sites (<10%) for project presentations and meetings

Desired skills and experience
- 1-3 years of healthcare data analysis experience preferred with the ability to manipulate and visualize data using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools
- 1-3 years of experience with healthcare operations data (e.g., scheduling, surgery case data, inpatient ADT (admission, discharge, and transfer) strongly preferred
- Significant experience with Microsoft Excel required
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required
- Strong oral and written presentation skills required
- Experience working with physicians and clinicians preferred
- Familiarity with hospital IT systems (e.g., GE, Meditech, Cerner, Epic, etc., preferred)
- Familiarity with statistics and operations research methods such as queuing analysis and discrete event simulation is a plus; training will be provided if needed
- Consulting and team management experience a plus
